US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provisional data published on Wednesday tells

Between 2020 and 2021 the life expectancy during birth falls by near around one year

Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, life expectancy dropped by over two and a half years

Now the life expectancy at birth fell to 76.1 years which is at the lowest level in the United States since 1996

This is recorded as the biggest two-year fall in life expectancy in a century

Half of this decline between 2020 to 2021 is due to COVID 19, as per CDC's National Center for Health Statistics report

The death rate from COVID-19 cases is low in 2020 compared to the 2021 second wave

Moreover, death caused by drugs overdose also set a record high in the year 2021, taking the lives of nearly 109,000 people
